Story

Studded with particularly fine quality diamonds, this dated 1897 crescent moon brooch is an ideal size, of harmonious shape and in remarkable condition.

With a total of 3.3 carats of diamonds these range from a size of 3/4 of a carat down to just over .01 carat for those on the tips. Unusually white and without any visible inclusions, their color ranks as G-H and their clarity VS.

Usually diamonds of the period average in color far yellower and in clarity quite included, yet this one is ablaze with starry frosty icy white light.

Note the generous sized center diamond and the tips that nearly touch but don't quite, for a balanced, well proportioned crescent moon.

The setting is silver topped 18k yellow gold and the gallery comprised of a crown or coronet design. Still intact, the original brooch fitting is present and there is a tiny female screw fitting perhaps that once held a removable hair pin.

Engraved to interior side in flowing script are the initials and name, "MEC Glencowin" and the date, "1897".
