With an English registry mark, jewelry (and other objects ranging from porcelain to wood) produced from 1842-1883 can be pinpointed to the exact year, month and day of creation.
This chic and oversized sterling silver arrow and shield brooch was lovingly made in November 1874. Since the registry mark is hand engraved, the day is slightly obscured, possibly the 21st.
The arrow is magnificent with its hand engraved surfaces ranging from feather-like designs, to linear stripes and zig zags. On the shield, a V shape is defined, as well as scrolls and an intertwining border and designs resembles a family crest.
Large and lovely, it is all original and still retains its tube hinge and C clasp. Can't you just see this on the label of a camel hair or belted navy blue coat?
