Story
Memory - there are so many connotations, emotions and experiences all wrapped up inside that simple word. Humans would not be what they are or accomplished what they have without it.
A rare and singular large oval locket simply states Recuerdo or memory in black enamel. A garland of blush pink roses and blue and yellow forget-me-nots drapes beneath it.
In a type of trompe l'oeil, a locket image including a fancy bale hangs from the garland. Also oval in shape, it depicts a curly haired beauty with the same flowers in her hair, head up-tilted, earrings dangling and a dress of coppery orange, gold and turquoise.
Around the perimeter are abstract curlicues, dots and designs also in black enamel. Textured and dimpled, the entire front surface is patterned.
The reverse is half smooth polished with the upper half hand engraved with a leaf, pointed and curling flourishes, lines and more dimpling to the surface.
The interior holds two photographs with their original rims and glass covers.
The chain is a work of art unto itself with two layers of two links wide. Atop each section is a roundel with triangular decorations. The chain contains two large spring ring clasps and an extra section for versatility of wear.
All are in 14k yellow gold and date to circa 1880.
