Story

Tsavorite (tsavolite) is a species of green garnet. Looking every bit like an emerald, verdant tsavorite was introduced to North America in 1974 by Tiffany & Co. The gem is mined in Tanzania and was named by Tiffany in honor of the Kenyon Tsavo River which flows through Tsavo National Park. The “newly discovered” gem has many of the characteristics so prized by purveyors of beauty.

Centered within a scalloped surround of eight (8) snowy white brilliant cut diamonds with a total estimated diamond weight of .56 carats (H-I color; VS2-SI1 clarity) is a faceted natural tsavorite of an estimated .60 carats. With a bright and lively green hue, the very fine stone has a fresh and radiant saturated color and good transparency. A 14k white gold mounting and a diamond surround provide the perfect contrast for the vividly toned rare gemstone.

Date: Later 20th century.
