Rock crystal…cool to the touch and icy white to the eye…is set in the manner of almost all jewelry pre-1840 jewelry, i.e., closed back. The top and bottom middle stone is white rock crystal with a distinctive black "spot" or dot. (More about black dot in paste jewelry in our Jewelry History section under Helpful Terms.) Surrounding the bottom oval are 15 small white rock crystal gemstones. The mount is silver-topped 10k rose gold. Never out of style or appearing dated, these ear baubles are what everyone desires. Measurements: 1-1/4 inches (3.3 cm) in length including ear wire. Bottom paste is 9/16 of an inch (1.4 cm) in length by 7/16 of an inch (1.0 cm) in width. Top paste is 5/16 of an inch (0.9 cm) in length by 1/4 of an inch (0.7 cm) in width. Weight of 5.3 grams (3.4 dwt) for the pair.

Condition: Very good; a few minute restorations to one drop at connection points of center to rim visible with magnification; top is a later marriage to bottom drop; modern gold connections between drops; ear wires are modern.
