Story

The old European cut diamond is a form of the brilliant cut diamond usually with fifty-eight facets. Hand worked, it has the key features of a large table, an open culet and a round perimeter or shape. Prevalent from the late eighteenth century till the early twentieth century, diamonds cut in this manner are especially difficult to obtain with high color grading. Typically found in the I-L range, this sparkling beauty of .62 carats boasts E in color. Virtually colorless, this one of the highest grades given a diamond. With VS1 clarity, this Art Deco damsel is in the vernacular of the day “V.S.O.P.”

Set within an octagonal bezel, four (4) small sapphires accent the corners with their blue color and triangular shape. Moreover, a pair of transitional cut diamonds on each side embellishes the sparkle with an additional .05 carats bringing the total diamond weight to .67 carats. The pierced and open work platinum mount with its scrolling designs and mille grain detailing justifiably honors the gorgeous center diamond.

This ring comes with a European Gemological Laboratory (EGL) certificate for the main diamond which has been removed from the mount for accurate weight and grading The other diamonds have not been removed from their mounts to preserve the integrity of the setting. Those diamond weights have been approximated by measurement and formula and may vary from actual weights. Grading has been done in situ and also may vary if stones are removed.

Date: Circa 1935.
