Story

A subtle pale green differentiates this precious amethyst from the expected (and usual) purple colored quartz. Yes, amethyst is a variety of quartz as is citrine, and rock crystal. Different elements often determine the coloration of the stone.

Here an oval faceted amethyst of an estimated 5.25 carats is set within a tri-color 10k gold mount. A bezel of yellow gold caresses the amethyst as rose gold flowerheads interspersed with trapezoidal plaques of glistening green gold encompass the entire scalloped perimeter of the matrix. Each shoulder of the ring is embellished with rose gold floral motifs within a triangular cartouche and impressed designs. An understated use of geometric forms reflects the impact Art Deco had on jewelry.

Date: Circa 1935.
