Story

This 19th century cameo has been rendered in the style of Nathaniel Marchant (1739-1816), one of England’s most renowned gem-engravers known for his classical intaglios and carvings he reinterpreted from antiquity. Cast in the Wedgwood technique versus carved in relief, it is an exquisite rendering of four figures, two against an architectural element or doorway in the background with one seated in contemplation and the other looking on.

The oval “cameo” has been into a 15k yellow gold pendant embellished with a border of natural seed pearl-set trefoils and rounds (untested but assumed natural due to examination and date). In addition, the original bale has been set with three natural seed pearls. The reverse reveals a locket back compartment with green paper insert under a glass cover which can be opened. The locket pendant is accompanied by a later date yellow gold chain.
