1.) Metal. Metal of the ring is always a great and easy place to start! What does she wear every day? Yellow Gold? White Gold? Rose Gold? Majority of women like to coordinate with what they already own. Even a watch is a great “tell”!
2.) Pinterest- Search and see if she has a Pinterest page (www.Pinterest.com). This has been a go to game changer for so many of our clients. It’s a perfect way to get a glimpse inside her brain without ruining any surprises or asking too many obvious questions. If anything you can usually narrow down the shape of the center diamond from what she has pinned.
3.) Big Jewelry? Or classic and refined? If she is a stud and simple necklace girl usually a tailored clean solitaire will be just what she is looking for. If she is into large gems, costume jewelry, and heavy mountings then an engagement ring with a split shank, halo or even some color would most definitely suite her and her flair for the more dramatic.
4.) Finger shape- trying on rings is a good bit like trying on clothes. An elongated ring might be trickier for someone with shorter, rounder fingers usually opt for a cushion, round or matchbook ratio radiant diamond. If she has long elegant fingers a nice Emerald or oval shape will always look flattering.
