In the hopper (with apologies, couldn't resist) is this offering of a charming bunny rabbit pendant. Made of sterling silver and from England in 1885, it is enamel and dated by hallmark.
On the front, a round domed plaque shows off a black and white bunny rabbit. Many breeds exist, among them the English spot rabbit or the lap rabbit. Any breed, but all adorable. The rabbit faces right and rests on a sienna and yellow ground, with a brick wall to the top right and a tree or vine nearby.
Surrounding the enamel is a twisted wire border. Then a plain recessed frame and the edge is raised.
On the reverse, a victory laurel wreath is raised. Beneath is the hallmark for the silver standard make, Birmingham, and the date letter "L" for 1885 along with a maker's mark, "A.F."
This was an award medal from a champion rabbit and today is a striking pendant or collectible, the whimsy is undeniable.
