Mikimoto cultured pearls are noted as some of the finest in the world. Kokichi Mikimoto perfected (and invented) the method of cultivation for Akoya saltwater pearls.
At 21 inches in length, the luster of this vintage strand is remarkable and evident. In shadow, and in light, the sheen and glow are impressive.
Their hue lies between creamy white and the softest of pinks. Flattering to most skin tones, they are also evenly matched.
The surfaces are nearly blemish-free; magnification is needed to detect anything but a smooth, even texture.
Each pearl averages 5.5 mm in diameter and all are knotted between. A classic oval silver Mikimoto safety clasp is topped with a 3 mm pearl. The "M" mark in a shell shape is clearly evident.
The comes with its original Mikimoto green velvet and buttery yellow silk and velvet interior. Also included are the original care instructions and its cardboard box.
Provenance: This strand was purchased in Vietnam around 1968 from a veteran of that war as a gift to his wife.
Further Notes: Cultured Akoya pearl prices are soaring according to many sources including AGTA (the American Gem Trade Association). See their article entitled, "Buckle Up—Japanese Akoya Pearl Prices Have Skyrocketed 80% with No End in Sight," published March 8, 2023
