Story
Sometimes our favorites in the jewelry world settle on the quirkiest, most unique, or downright whimsical.
Yes, this is a realistically hued, exquisitely enameled, diamond gold and platinum stickpin of a corn kernel.
In its original deep purple velvet box, the interior is stamped, "Bennett Bros. Jewelers, 175 Broadway, New York at Maiden Lane & Cortlandt St."
Could it have been for a 1900's corn farmer for his tie or lapel? An heir to a corn or corn oil fortune? Someone whose kernel of an idea led them to success? Your guess...but it's as loveable whatever its possible origins.
In 18k yellow gold, it is mill grained, platinum topped with two old European cut diamonds (.06 carats, H-I color SI1-2 clarity). It is wonderful when the statement, one-of-a-kind cannot be disputed.
Fun Fact: The building where the Bennett Brothers had their 2nd Floor jewelry store still stands in NY in the Financial District. It is the Germania Building built in 1865 with an architecturally impressive façade. However, the bottom floor was covered by a more modern and rather bleak one.
