MARKED DOWN!
riker Brothers has a history that dates back to 1846 and they were integral members of the venerated cabal of American jewelry designers and fabricators located in Newark, New Jersey. This small city became the core fabricating mecca of the jewelry of the Art Nouveau, Beaux Arts, Edwardian and Retro eras and developed into what was once the jewelry manufacturing capital of America.
Riker Brothers pieces are ranked in the top echelons of collectible names from Newark or, for that fact, American designers. It goes without saying that the more unusual or exceptional the aesthetics, the more highly sought after.
Quintessentially Art Nouveau, this superlative all over patterned swallow bird motif 18k yellow gold bangle is as good as it gets.
Three birds in various positions of flight repeat in 5 bands across the entire surface. Between them rest oval banded abstract designs with hints at a landscape or a water scene.
In a burnished matte finish, the gold radiates with a glow of age, light patina, and sheer artistry. The raised patterns of the birds and cartouches between are enhanced with a slightly undulating top and bottom edge adding to its lyrical and rhythmic design.
Sublime as the birds themselves that serve as this jewel's inspiration, the bracelet dates to circa 1900. It is marked 18k and with the Riker Brothers mark as well and is in impeccable condition. It will fit most any wrist.
