Story
"THE" most exquisite Art Nouveau or Edwardian fob pendant seal ever offered for sale! French in origin, the artistry and quality reveals itself from every angle and perspective.
Solid 18k yellow gold and weighty at over 43 grams, it is like nothing you will see again.
A detailed dragon atop faces downward. His claw grip the exterior oval; his head juts forward, his mouth holds the "O" fitting that joins top to bottom.
The dragon's tail extends and morphs into the entire oval surround. It maintains a faint pattern of scales. It then curves upward and out for the top element, resembling an iris flower.
Below, two opposing ibis birds nearly lock beaks. Their feathery necks stretched upward with the beaks open around the fleur-de-lis-like top area.
A pair of birds rests upon a seal decorated with scrolls, diamond shapes and textured grand embellishments. At the base, the initials W V A.
One way to style this is via an ingenious flip-up or down fitting with two prongs (to hold fabric) to suspend from jeans, a jacket pocket. Since this is heavy, the fabric must be sturdy enough to support its weight. Another way is to suspend this from a chain from its top bale.
It could have originally been worn on a chatelaine, or on a belt of a gown or dress. Astounding!
