Story
Now quite collectible, this pair of signed Carrington double sided cufflinks appealed to the understated elegant tastes of the Edwardian era.
These classic links are made of platinum-topped 14k yellow gold. For the pair, four round discs of mother-of-pearl are each set with an old European cut diamond of .10 carats (four for the set) with H-I color and SI1-2 clarity.
A platinum border adorned with a series of spiral grooves superimposed with “X” forms appoint the surface most likely borrowed from French neoclassical designs.
To the reverse, 14k yellow gold forms a slightly bulbous profile for each of the round links. The type of fitting is known as a flattened bridge connection attaching each disc through an integrated loop.
Historical Notes: In the later part of the nineteenth and early decades of the twentieth century there were only two American-based makers of exquisite accessories for men - Carrington & Co. and Larter & Sons.
Both were based in Newark, New Jersey and provided items such as cufflinks and stud sets as well as precious metal cigarette cases to such prestigious retail jewelers as Dunhill, Tiffany & Co. and Cartier.
