Story
This wide hinged sterling silver bangle represents the style of the Aesthetic Period of the Victorian era. Seen by some as a rebellion against the prevailing traditional and ornate design of the time, this new form was simple and decidedly influenced by Japanese culture.
Deeply incised across the front of the bracelet is an Asian-inspired scene of nature and water life. A group of fluidly rendered cranes attend to daily life in a waterscape. Dotted with images of cattails, floating foliage and palm fronds all pared back with an economy of form. Hand engraving displays the use of simple perspective with use of shadow and form.
The bangle is hinged for ease of wear and is appointed with a tongue and groove clasp.
