Story
This mid Victorian pair of 14k yellow gold earrings beautifully balance both drama and delicacy in their long of 2-1/2 inches. Although they may appear heavy, the earrings are light on the ear with the delicate cannetille, wire and filigree work used in their construction. Consisting of two elements, the earring has a small cannetille rosette surmount from which hangs lightweight chain link and acanthus leaf motifs.
Configured in a stylized or reverse girandole (three drop) form, each earring suspends a total of over 5 carats of rich, radiant purple amethysts. In detail, an oval faceted of .90 carats, one round of 1.8 carats and two of 1.25 carats each grace each.
The amethysts are set in bezels with twisted rope design and accented with neoclassical scroll forms and golden orbs. In all, the earrings have a total weight of 10.4 carats for eight (8) amethysts.
