Story

Although jewelry containing plaits, braids or plumes of human hair was worn since the 17th century, the practice reached its zenith during the Victorian years. Not at all limited to mourning pieces, the material was prized for its incorporation into love token jewelry which was exchanged between cherished friends, family members, beaus and belles.

Interposed within a ring of 14k rose gold is a tight plait of dark ash blonde hair which is visible through pierced and open gold work or cutouts of the capital letters which spell the name “R O B B I E”. Beautiful engravings of botanical motifs, accents and an outstanding dart architectural design adorn the surface. Most likely given as a sign of affection or passing, it is inscribed to the interior in italic script “Aug. 20, 85” for August 20th, 1885.
