How very unusual this Victorian era fob is! The seal contains three bands, one containing two moles, a center band with Chequy, or checkerboard pattern, and a third band with another mole, all hand carved into a rich carnelian.
Set into an impressive, four armed pendant of 10k yellow gold, the pattern is crisp and clear. It it large in size and its that much more special for its near immaculate condition.
Letter writing was the email of the day during the 19th century (and prior). Sometimes people wrote to each other 2 or more times a day. And to secure that letter, this seal was created in gold and agate. A drop of melted candlewax, a press of the fob, the letter is sealed for the reader's eyes only!
Several family names are associated with this charming mammal including Twistelon, Isley, Molle and more.
Who doesn't love a little, furry mole?
