Delicacy Unfolded: Antique Peridot Pearl Pendant
The peridot was a favorite of Queen Cleopatra and of the Alexandra, consort of Edward VII. An ethereal pendant of 18k yellow gold displays a few of the more subtle characteristics of the style period referred to as Edwardian.
A faceted lozenge shape natural peridot of a vibrant green rests upon an equilateral rhomboid configuration of gold set with twenty (20) natural half seed pearls. A similarly configured open work surround with a knife edge border sports an additional eight (8) creamy natural half pearls. An open trefoil surmount is set with two (2) more pearls and suspended from a bale with five (5) small pearls. The delicate pendant is paired with a later date 18k yellow gold chain.
Date: Circa 1900.
Measurements: Pendant is 1-3/4 inches (4.4 cm) in length by 7/8 of an inch (2.2 cm) at the widest. Chain is 18-1/2 inches (47.0 cm) in total length. Weight of 9.4 grams (6.0 dwt) for pendant and chain.
Condition: Chain has been added later; minute restoration to the bottom of the bale visible with a loupe.
