Sonata in a Bohemian Garnet Necklace
Nothing lights up a room as does an antique Bohemian garnet necklace from the Victorian era. Stars upon stars in graduated size display a striking luminosity and vivid life as hundreds of rich bright pyrope garnets form clusters.
The front of the necklace is dazzling with its four articulated drops. In typical fashion, the star pattern is repeated employing different sizes and forms of encrusted garnets all set in rose gold over silver. The piece is accompanied by a Victorian era leather case which was refitted to hold the necklace.
Date: Circa 1880.
Measurements: 14-1/4 inches (36.2 cm) in length; longest drop is 3-1/4 inches (8.2 cm) in length. Weight of 35.2 grams (22.7 dwt).
Condition: Excellent.
Origin: European and most likely from the Czech Republic.
