Georgian Gems: Topaz & Seed Pearl Earrings
A pair of faceted oval rounds of yellow topaz are set in 9k yellow and rose gold are matched with seed pearls to create a sought after set of Georgian pendant topaz earrings. Each earring sports a topaz surmount of about 2.5 carats, which suspends a topaz drop of about 3.1 carats for a total estimated topaz weight of 11.2 carats for the pair. The top topaz is set in a pinched collet with a surround of tiny natural seed pearls on wire. The larger topaz drop has a decorative bezel of 14k yellow gold and a similar frame of tiny natural seed pearls also on a wire.
Date: Circa 1840.
Measurements: 1-5/8 inches (4.1 cm) in length including ear wire and 1-3/8 of an inch (3.5 cm) without by 9/16 of an inch (1.4 cm) at the widest. Weight of 7.3 grams (4.7 dwt) for the pair.
Condition: Very good; pearl borders and their fittings appear to have been added later; modern 14k yellow gold ear wires.
