Hand Carved Agate Tudor Revival Art Deco Ring
Set within a Tudor or Gothic revival style 18k yellow gold ring is a two-color agate hard stone. A rectangular stone displays a hand-carved crest of a stylized image and a monogram. The animal may be a member of the genus Felis or cat. Possibly a Felis Lynx or a heraldic “cat-a-mountain”, the cat is passant guardant, that is walking with its right forepaw raised and the others on the ground and facing the viewer. The letters C, B and O overlap in combination to form a monogram. The carvings are done in reverse so as to enable use as a seal. The piece was originally a ring for a man yet is equally appropriate and proportionate for that of a woman.
Date: 1928
Measurements: 11/16 of an inch (1.7 cm) in length north to south on the hand and rises 1/8 of an inch (0.4 cm) in height off the finger. Weight of 10.3 grams (6.6 dwt).
Ring Size: US 9 (UK R-1/2; Int. Dia. 19; Euro 60 mm; Japan 18) and can be easily sized to fit most. Ring sizing information.
Hallmarks: Partial set of English hallmarks for London and date letter for 1928; maker's mark of “GBH”.
Condition: Excellent; evidence of two re-sizings to interior visible with magnification; on exterior is a very fine line on the side visible upon close inspection.
