Fancy Edwardian Long Guard Chain
Crafted of silver, this early 20th century long guard chain is comprised of a repeated pattern of long rectangular links with rounded edges. Known as fetter-and-three link chain, each of the elongated links are joined by three small loops to make a chain of over 58 inches. Although the piece is fully hallmarked on almost every link, these marks are difficult to find and there is no city hallmark to allow for exact dating. Finished with a snap link or dog clip end.
Measurements: 58-1/4 inches (148.0 cm) in length and 1/8 of an inch (0.3) in width. Weight of 25.4 grams (16.3 dwt).
Hallmarks: English hallmarks on most every link (quite unusual to find) and on dog clip including maker's mark of HP and a date letter E.
Condition: Excellent; light overall wear and some slight variations to chain links as expected with age and wear.
Date & Origin: Circa early 20th century and is English in origin.
