Art Nouveau Bejeweled Chimera Ring
The mythical monster beast Chimera is perhaps one of the perfect archetypal images that the Art Nouveau movement could incorporate into its aesthetics. The love of expressive curves with tensed energies (such as the whiplash) and writhing forms all lead to an underlying sense of the veiled sinister world of instinct.
Powerful in its symbolism of courage, strength and resilience, the lion head of the Chimera focuses the power of its dynamism through garnet cabochon eyes. Within the grasp of powerful jaws an old European cut diamond of about .10 carats is gripped with four great canines in the style of a four prong setting. Scrolling side details mingling amidst pierced and open 10k gold work all add to the force of movement of this period Art Nouveau ring.
