In Napoleon's Manner: Garnet and Diamond Earrings
Reminiscent of the Napoleonic Regency style, this pair of elegant earrings is classic in its girandole form. A tear shaped almandine garnet surmount with fine connecting chains of rose gold, each punctuated with one luscious natural pearl creates a most impressive articulated multi-element earring.
An open work crescent shape studded with approximately .16 carats of diamonds (one old mine cut diamond of about 10 points and two single cuts of an estimated .03 carats apiece) forms a bridge between the chains and suspend a trio of teardrop pendants of fine almandine garnets. In the traditional style, all of the garnets have been foiled and set closed back. For the pair the total estimated diamond weight is .32 carats of glittering brilliance.
Measurements: 1-13/16 inches (4.6 cm) in length by 9/16 of an inch (1.4 cm) in width. Weight of 4.0 grams (2.6 dwt)for the pair.
Condition: Very good; later modern ear wires; a small amount of wear to garnets at facet edges and a few tiny abrasions; all visible upon magnification.
Date: Circa 1915
Overall Scale: Delicate but medium in length.
Note: All diamond and gemstone weights are approximate as the stones have not been removed in order to preserve the integrity of the setting.
