A natural, unheated, no-heat deep purple sapphires shift color to a bluer violet hue depending on the type of light. The strongest variations in color result from transitioning from incandescent light to daylight. Oval and faceted, estimated by measurements it is 1.64 carats in weight.
The dragonfly proved a favored motif for the Art Nouveau period. Lalique, Louis Comfort Tiffany, and many others followed their lead and utilized this seemingly ethereal winged creature as inspiration.
