Two of the most divine Colombian emeralds ever offered rest nestled securely within this astounding 18th century pendant.
Could it be lace or 18k gold? Unbelievably, gold...and in such a remarkably ebullient riot of ornate curlicues.
Two Colombian emeralds rivet all your attention with their lush, verdant green hues and nuanced hints of blue. Sunken treasure and Spanish doubloons come to mind; glorious riches buried under the Seven Seas.
Each emerald (approximately 5 mm each way) is bezel set with sides that reach just over top of the emerald surfaces. These box shaped bezels are ensconced atop a pillow of puffy "quilted" gold, typical of one of the techniques and styles of the day.
In two parts, both the top and bottom center areas rest above the surrounding, lyrical scrolls of gold. Tiny lengths of this metal have been flatted and laid on their side, edge up, to form the open work.
Entirely handmade, it is a masterful eyeful.
