A white chalcedony agate is carved in intaglio with the words, "Honesty The Best Policy" surrounding a judge or barrister head in profile, attired in full-bottomed wig and cloak with traditional white tie.
This practice of courtroom attire, including long wigs, went out of fashion around 1840.
The metal is gold gilt over metal with deeply chased and scrolling flowers and designs around the base and the handle and support.
Large enough to wear on a chain by itself. An appropriate motto for us all to live by.
