Some special sapphires possess an unusual trait. Those that are lavender and purple in hue, can color shift or change to blue. This only occurs if man has not heat-treated them.
Once heated, this seemingly magical visual property is negated. Usually the more saturated the hue in the purple range, the more distinct the color change to vivid blue. For instance many pale lavender shades of sapphires only shift subtly to a blue hue.
In order to see the shift, the light temperature must change. In daylight, they appear purple. But in say, florescent light, voila, the color appears cooler and bluer.
In this magnificent sapphire, the chameleon-like colors are evident. Deep lavender purple, to an azure blue in the flick of the light. No mistaking this one!
