How does jewelry survive so many years with almost no wear? It is quite uncommon, but it does occur.
Our theory is that many family jewels that came from the British Isles and Europe originated from cultures that did not move and relocate as frequently as those of us from the States. In addition, a tradition of tucking jewelry away at home or in the bank, and passing items down from one generation to another, is more prevalent than in our whirlwind, ever-changing, modern lives.
In this exceptional ring, it appears nearly unworn. How do we know it is authentic? For so many reasons! Really, one look should tell you that its exquisite craftsmanship and precision speaks volumes. It is also classic for the late Georgian and early Victorian years in style, form, and construction. But another clue is the locket at the back.
It is still intact and has a tiny beveled glass (another clue), and beneath is the original hair work. One is blond, another brunette, and braided together. Modern reproductions almost never have a glass cover, and if they did, nothing would be underneath, nor would the glass be beveled.
Glorious! This has survived its 175 with a caretaker exceptional!
