Going “green” and upcycling appears to be a phenomenon in recent decades. But, au contraire mes amis, as the Georgian era may be referred to as the “queen of the reworked jewels”.
Quite frequently items of jewelry were refashioned from one type to another or modified to fit the current fashion trend. Jewelry was rare and costly and had to suit various generations and dress.
These antique earrings date to about 1800 and more than likely started as a pair of cufflinks or cuff buttons*. They have the look of about a 5 carat diamond each!
Softly sparkling white pastes have been foiled and set into closed-back and hand-crimped silver cups. Translated into a chic and wearable pair of earrings with the addition of modern 14k yellow gold ear wires, these ear baubles span more than two centuries.
