The buckle motif shows up throughout several more current centuries of jewelry designs. Truthfully, far earlier in various cultures across the globe in a variety of forms such as within the garter (for The Order of the Garter) in the Merovingian culture's gold work.
To this day it is still a favored theme. Traditionally bestowed as a token of love or friendship, the buckle ring also symbolized the unity between two people.
Richly incised, an arched buckle, hasp, and belt form have been rendered so realistically as to appear three-dimensional. This 18k gold antique ring was also crafted with deeply patterned flowers and leaves all the way around.
