Story
In their original box comes this jewelry set consisting of a brooch and matching earrings.
In sterling silver, they are classic for the later Victorian era and their archeological revival geometrics.
Repoussé silver work (hammered or pushed out from the reverse) creates lightweight but showy hollow work. Beautiful wirework and tiny beads of silver adorn the surfaces.
The brooch reveals a glass-covered locket compartment on the back. Petite but darling, the earrings still retain their original ear wires (a real rarity).
When you first see them, you think they won't work. But it is amazing they aren't used today as they are so effective. A version of a short shepherd's hook, they are meant to insert into the ear lobe, push all the way on, then twist a half turn. Surprisingly, they act as a clever mechanism to keep them on the ear lobe.
