Story
Oriental & Middle Eastern influences are easily recognized in this Art Deco pendant locket.
Oval in shape, it was created from platinum, onyx, and diamonds. Back in the early 20th century, even Cartier himself collected ceramics, books, fabrics, and other ornaments from these regions as direct influence and inspiration for his exquisite creations.
Spiky flames or leaves, an abstracted central flower, and additional geometric design elements are picked out in platinum and rose-cut diamonds.
This screen of shimmer rests atop an onyx plaque with two torpedo shaped onyx elements and a central swirl.
The original bale with two tiny diamonds is still intact. On the reverse, the lid opens to reveal a shallow compartment. The dynamism of the motif is achieved in a small space, it resonates with kinetic energy.
