Story
A textbook example of the artistry and aesthetics of the Art Nouveau movement, this decorative pendant watch that is highly decorative.
Created in 18k yellow gold, the watch cover's pleasing appeal works on many levels. Whiplash curves are dramatically raised on the surface. A textured background of linear incised "waves" and dimpling allow the sinuous curves to stand out.
A blue moonstone cabochon serves as the focal point with spirals of gold beneath. Six old mine diamonds anchor the composition.
For the dial of the watch, there are royal blue enamel numerals, metallic silver dots for the minutes, and tiny gold diamond shapes at the 5 second intervals. At the outer edge, black numbers mark the seconds along with an inset 60 second dial.
The interior cover reads, "G?N Nat'l WC Co, 18k, 57861" for National Watch Co. Also, 1GD8, and the watch movement with serial number 130604.
Historical Note: The National Watch Co. of Chicago, Illinois was incorporated in 1864 and in 1874 became Elgin.
