In the antique jewelry world, it is nearly impossible to be jaded (pun intended).
For almost every day, you come across something that you have never seen before, no matter how many years you have collected or browsed.
This pendant ranks as at the pinnacle of its type all in 18k gold in two colors, rose and yellow with platinum accents. At the center sits a round hardstone agate cameo in chocolate brown and white hues carved in a hunting scene of three dogs and a wild boar within a landscape. This opens to reveal a locket compartment.
To the reverse, the same unadorned hardstone appears with the top as the white part of the agate, which looks almost blue-brown due to the chestnut brown almost black agate beneath and also with the edge showing.
This was certainly custom made for a special boar hunting event to be awarded as the prize and the exceptionally realistically modeled imagery includes to the front: a shotgun with platinum double barrels and hammer, a boar's head, a riding helmet, a spear, a dagger with eagle head handles and platinum tip, ornate flowers, and sinuous ribbon throughout.
The reverse reveals a powder flask, a riding crop, more flowers and ribbon, and a laurel leaf bouquet. It is so three dimensional, that the objects on the front also appear poking through and onto the back.
Note the exceptional hand engraving details to many of the objects. Be sure to enlarge our images to behold its full intricacies.
Better still, not only does the cameo locket open, but the entire pendant is hinged and the top tilts back.
Each item depicted is so realistic, even in miniature, it appears as if you could cock the gun, use the spear, or don the riding helmet.
Large and magnificent, it is a weighty masterpiece at over 32 grams.
