The nearly lost art of hand engraving was alive and well during the Victorian era.
While a few master artisans can still engrave to the standards set long ago, much has been replaced by machine laser produced work.
It certainly flourished as evidenced by the intricate embellishment of this antique 18k yellow gold heart locket pendant.
Two roses and their leaves then spread outward with curlicues, plumes, and swirls in remarkably fine engraved gold covering the surface of this puffy heart.
On the reverse, a removable glass covered heart shaped cover can be removed to insert a photo of cherished mementos.
