Story

Part of the joy of antique jewelry is the constant surprise of discovering a design for the first time. Over the centuries, the endless variation and invention are truly remarkable given the wearable scale that jewelry must confine itself within.

These amazing antique earrings rest firmly in that category, for we have never seen another pair like them. Stylish swags of luminous gold form an oval within an oval.

Two rich festoons sit juxtaposed within glossy coal-black enamel. As the earrings move, the light catches the gold surfaces and rotates around the surface.

At the center, two old rose cut diamonds are placed in a surround of rub-over silver. The two total .36 carats, with a color estimated at J-K and clarity of SI1-2 as these are set deep within the metal, closed backed and foiled.

The surmounts form fleur-de-lis designs with more jet black enamel and six tiny rose cut diamonds in each. In 18k yellow gold, these Victorian earrings are constructed in two parts and have modern shepherd's hook ear wires.

French in origin, these are a scarce and fine example of the art of enameling.

Note: Any light or white highlights to the enamel are reflections of the lighting. The surfaces are in excellent condition.
