Story
If you consult the highly regarded book, "Earrings from Antiquity to the Present" by Mascetti and Triossi, you will note that the 1870s was the era of fringe, fringe and more fringe in jewelry.
Coming down to us from 150 years ago, is this pair of 15k yellow gold earrings with woven chain, darts and voluminous puffed shapes.
Light on the ear but weighty in style and elegance, the surmount is an orb of gold. A tiny open work cage of gold secures two box chains with pointed, dart shaped ends.
From this, a hollow egg form suspends five more chains with tiny beads of gold at the ends, the center with an elongated dart.
Pure 1870s archeological revival style with its flattering form.
