The neo Renaissance style flourished around 1890-1920. A continuation of the Renaissance revival that began around 1850, the motifs of Renaissance art and decorative arts were employed as a wellspring of inspiration for jewelry design.
Evocative of borders and friezes of decorative wallpaper, illustrations and graphics of the 1500 and 1600s, the central panel seems alive with floral-inspired open work and undulating, organic designs. At the top and bottom are two rounded silver elements raised above the panels.
Worked in 800 silver (less than sterling, which is 925/1000 parts or over) it is hinged and employs one of the prettiest safety chains. Longer than usual and for ease of wear, a fleur-de-lis dangles at each end.
