Horse and dog lovers take note as this Retro bracelet remains an ode to the connection between humans and animals.
Created in 14k yellow gold and dating to the 1930s, this link bracelet combines both dog, equestrian and horse motifs.
Essex crystals first surfaced in the mid 19th century. Often British by birth, the country's fascination with the natural world and sciences spurred on (don't you just love a good pun?) a wave of related jewelry.
Essex crystals are cabochons (rounded tops and flat bottoms) of clear quartz that are carved out from the reverse. In the recesses, hand painting brings to life a spaniel dog in black and white. Hues of chocolate brown define the horse along with a stripe of cream color down its nose. A bit and bridle with touches of silver and gold are depicted.
Opposing horseshoes in gold are realistically modeled, including nails and outer walls. These combine with more gold links to call up images of bridle tackle. The horseshoes flank the outer ends and two stirrups enfold the rock crystals.
Both crystals are backed with mother of pearl giving them depth and sheen while enhancing the three-dimensional imagery.
American in origin, this vintage bracelet is beautifully conceived and wrought.
