Story

A Harlequin romance to be sure...one with all the drama, colorful intrigue, whispers and sighs that would be expected from any great love affair.

Dating back to the Georgian era circa 1820, this is a majestic jewel while remaining wearable and au courant.

The gemstones are a bright and vivid, colorful cast that include at the center an amethyst with three other amethysts in the surround and dangle, two citrines, one bluish white topaz, one aquamarine, two garnets, and two chrysoberyls.

Cannetille gold work of 18k wends its way around the gemstones and, along with the granulated gold beads, adds texture, light and shadow.

Each gemstone is set closed backed in a convex well of gold, and foiled beneath. The reverse has two small locket compartments, one with some hair strands inside. These are meant to be opened by a jeweler and are not hinged.

An exquisite, textured long chain feels as magical as it looks. The chain tests at over 18k gold and is a visual wonderful with small textured light links and a gorgeous barrel clasp. The length is 24 ½ inches and is removable to use with other pendants or by itself.

Clue to Authenticity: A secret to identifying Georgian chains? Always look for light weight chains. While that is only one piece of the puzzle, they were never heavy. These were created in an age when a scarcity of gold, due to the Napoleonic wars, spurred jewelers on to create the illusion of more with less. If you find a weighty Georgian chain, look further!
