The term “black opal” is somewhat misleading as the opal is not 'black' in color but has a very dark base body color which enhances the brilliance of the diffracted colors. It can range from jet black to dark grayish-blue or even deep brown.
In this case, intense peacock blue contrasts with chartreuse and lime green iridescence that results in an opal that never stops. Every angle reveals further intensity and hues would that do a peacock proud.
Oval cabochon cut, its 3.1 carats of pure joy to behold. Its companions are six brilliant cut diamonds, three on each side. They add just a bit of shimmer with a total weight of .09 carats with H-I color, SI2-3 clarity. It is set into an 18k bezel with a slightly tapered shank.
