Story

Opposing dolphin figures go head to head and tail to tail in this remarkably beautiful opal ring.

Dolphins were a frequent leitmotif of the Renaissance era; you find their heads or full bodies embellishing jewelry, decorative arts and architecture throughout the period. Many of these designs inspired the Art Nouveau and Edwardian artists and a Neo Renaissance period existed dating to the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Of 18k weighty gold, this ring is painstakingly recreated from an original antique ring of the Renaissance Revival. The dolphin heads each cup a natural white opal. Their sinuous bodies form ess curves down each side and their tails touch and mingle at the back. Stylized splashing waves nestle against the gemstone to the north and south.

Displaying neon intense greens and watery blues, the opal is 5 mm in diameter or .25 carats. Its serves as the perfect counterpoint for the buttery, textured 18k gold with its sea creature theme.

This recreation was one of the few we have chosen to be worthy of our vintage and antique collections.
