Story
An evocative antique photo locket of 10k rose, yellow and green gold displays an image of a soaring swallow. This avian bird represented a safe return home and loyalty.
The composition uses three-dimensional appliques of yellow gold for the bird head, rose gold for the wings and tail and green gold to accent the foliate forms. The aesthetic approach to rendering the forms shows the Japanese influence which was prevalent during this time span.
Silver corners are engraved with flower details and a scrolling bale tops the locket. Clearly given as a gift, the back is hand engraved in script with the initials ANC, Sept 27 “87” and the initials JHL, WK, CMF.
Opening the locket pendant reveals a compartment for a photo or memento.
