Story

What a wonderful way to communicate a message without using words. Symbolism has been with us ever since human beings developed culture. Historically we have used images, icons and others nonverbal signals to convey meaning. Emojis remind us little changes.

Created by the manufacturing company of Paye & Baker of Massachusetts (founded as Simmons & Paye in 1896), this
signed vermeil sterling silver (gold over silver) brooch depicts a bird in flight surrounded by foliate blooms. Open work of silver details the texture of the stalks of forget-me-not flowers…little tiny blue enamel petal clusters.

Centermost, a blue bird of happiness seamlessly shows flight with wings spread wide. The cobalt blue enamel avian is finely detailed with layers of feathers clearly rendered. A bright red enamel eye aa golden yellow enamel beak completes the picture.
