Story

Soar with the winged creatures of the endless sky in this solid sterling silver bird pendant from 1931.

Created in Birmingham, England in the Art Deco period, the center features an ornate scalloped and raised shield shape covered in multi colored enamels of a flying pigeon. It highlights deep Prussian and medium blues, pinks, yellows, a touch of violet and teal.

While we mistakenly think of pigeons as mundane, in truth they are remarkable for their innate intelligence, adaptability and beautiful coloration.

The silver surfaces are highly decorated with designs from vertical channels to various pleasing patterns. The bale combines both organic forms and geometric shapes. As you move, there are higher and lower polished finishes to the silver so that the front gives off highlights and lowlights.

Likely this was an award medal given (or perhaps never presented since it isn't inscribed) for an English pigeon club of the day. The back is plain except for the hallmarks and suitable for engraving. Just ask!
