Story
Sloan & Co. is one of the renowned manufacturers of American Art Nouveau and Edwardian era jewelry located in Newark, New Jersey. With a prestigious jewelry shop in New York City, Sloan & Co. presented the "Four Hundred" of the late 1800s and café society of the later years with any number of lovely jewelry choices.
One of their collections focused on a series of astrological or Zodiac signs in locket form or in a pendant. Quite ornate and in the manner of Art Nouveau, this 14k yellow pendant features a high relief design for the sign of Pisces, birth date Zodiac for February 19th through March 20th.
Dominant is a pair of opposing fish with tails entwined enclosing "FEB" and the glyph typically associated with the fish - the H-like form. The word PISCES is also specified on the front.
This birth sign is ruled by Neptune…thus the representation of the trident as the ends of the fish tails. Flowers and neoclassical elements frame the outer edge of the pendant. Possible the yarrow flower is depicted, a bloom associated with the sign.
