Story
Fobs were designed to hang from a watch chain. Typically ornamental, they ranged from simple to the elaborate. The one shown here is from the Edwardian years circa 1920 and is made of 14k yellow gold.
Pre-dating today’s fidget spinner, this “spinner fob” has a center section which holds a fancy cut amethyst of a generous 14 carats. The stone is set with pins on both sides which enable the amethyst to spin freely.
A neoclassical design, rococo in nature composes the gold portion with a shell element and opposing “C” forms. The piece was converted to a brooch by attaching the fob to an open circle with brooch fittings on the reverse.
